The short answer

Switch Natural costs $49.99 a year after a 7-day trial, up from a one-time price early users paid. It promises “zero brand partnerships” and “No brand deals”, yet its own website lists dozens of brand discount codes, many in the founder’s name, and 34 of the 89 links on that page carry affiliate or referral tracking. Its Google Play listing says your data isn’t encrypted.

What that means: you’d be paying for “independent” advice from a business with a page full of commission links, and sending your photos over an unencrypted connection. ComfiSkin is free, has no brand deals of any kind, and keeps your notes on your phone.

“No brand deals”, next to a page of discount codes

Switch Natural’s website says it is “100% Independent: We have zero brand partnerships” and “No brand deals”.2 The same website has a discount-codes page listing dozens of brand codes, many of them in the founder’s name, such as “ANDREADAHR” and “ANDREA20”, for skincare brands and supplements. When we checked, 34 of the page’s 89 outgoing links carried affiliate or referral tracking, several of them labelled “affiliate” in the link itself. We found no affiliate disclosure on the page.3

Discount codes with the founder’s name on them usually mean someone earns when you use them. That’s a normal way for creators to make money. It is not what most people picture when an app tells them it has zero brand partnerships.

ComfiSkin has no codes, no affiliate links and no brand relationships. It earns nothing from what you buy, so “you don’t need this” is always a possible answer.

What that means for you: “independent” can come with a commission attached. Check whose links you’re clicking.

A one-off app turned yearly subscription

Switch Natural moved new users to a subscription in September 2025.1 Its website now says “Free for 7 days, then $49.99/year”, and the App Store lists a single $49.99 yearly plan.1,2 Some long-time users weren’t pleased.

“They charged my account randomly after I deleted the app”

Deleting an app doesn’t cancel a subscription, and many people find that out from their bank statement. ComfiSkin has no subscription, so there’s nothing to cancel and nothing to be charged for.

What that means for you: $49.99 every year to check labels, and a trial you have to remember to stop.

Your photos, sent without encryption

Switch Natural works by reading photos and screenshots of ingredient labels. On Google Play, its data safety section says: “Data isn’t encrypted. Your data isn’t transferred over a secure connection.” It lists photos, device IDs, your name and email among the data it collects.4 Reviewers also say it works poorly unless you give it access to all your photos.5

ComfiSkin keeps your skin profile, shelf and photos on your phone, and backups are protected with a password only you know.

What that means for you: the photos and details you give Switch Natural travel over a connection its own listing says isn’t secure.

What to do if you use Switch Natural

  1. Check whether you’re paying. On an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel it.
  2. Treat discount codes as adverts. If a code has someone’s name on it, they probably earn when you use it.
  3. Scan your products in ComfiSkin. It checks them against your skin, for free, with nothing to sell.
