ComfiSkin vs COSMILE Europe

The short answer

COSMILE Europe describes itself as an initiative of Cosmetics Europe, the cosmetics industry’s European trade association. So the guide explaining your ingredients is backed by the companies that use them. A reviewer with a nut allergy says it failed to flag sweet almond oil on their avoid list, its Google Play listing says your data can’t be deleted, and it scores around 3 stars on both stores.

What that means: an industry-backed guide that can miss the very ingredient you told it to watch for. ComfiSkin is independent, checks your avoid list on every scan and shows matches first, and you can delete your data whenever you like.

The industry explaining its own ingredients

COSMILE Europe’s website calls it “an initiative of Cosmetics Europe”, the trade association that represents the European cosmetics industry, with national industry bodies from Germany, France and the UK involved.1 It deliberately doesn’t rate ingredients as good or bad. It explains them.

There’s value in accurate explanations, and the industry knows its ingredients. But a guide funded by the people who make the products was never going to tell you an ingredient is a problem, and it doesn’t tell you whether a product is right for you. ComfiSkin is independent of every brand, and gives you a verdict for your skin as well as the explanation.

What that means for you: you’re getting the industry’s description of its own products, with no opinion on whether they suit you.

An avoid list has to catch everything

COSMILE’s best feature is the personal avoid list. But in September 2026, a UK reviewer wrote that an ingredient on their list wasn’t highlighted, “which is a real worry for nut allergy sufferers”. The ingredient was sweet almond oil.3 Other reviewers complain that many common products are missing. When we checked, 21 of the 41 reviews on the German App Store gave one or two stars, and it averaged 3.1 there and 2.7 on Google Play.3,2

For someone avoiding an allergen, a miss isn’t a small bug. ComfiSkin checks your avoid list against the full ingredient list of every product you scan and shows any matches first, so you can see them for yourself.

What that means for you: trust an avoid list that misses things, and you could find out on your skin.

Your data, kept for good

On Google Play, COSMILE’s data safety section says “Data can’t be deleted”.2 If you’ve stored an avoid list with your allergies in it, that’s personal health information you can’t take back. ComfiSkin keeps your avoid list, skin profile and notes on your phone, and you can delete them whenever you like.

What that means for you: what you tell COSMILE stays with COSMILE. What you tell ComfiSkin stays with you.

What to do if you use COSMILE

  1. If you have an allergy, read every label yourself. No app should be your only check.
  2. Remember who’s explaining. An industry guide explains ingredients; it won’t tell you to avoid a product.
  3. Put your avoid list in ComfiSkin. It checks every scan, shows matches first, and keeps your list on your phone.
