Is lotion right for your skin?

A lotion or gel is generally a good facial choice because facial skin is thinner and more sensitive than body skin. Very dry facial skin can need a richer texture. Judge the choice by whether it keeps your skin comfortably moisturized, not simply whether the bottle says lotion.1

How to apply CeraVe lotion to your face

1. 1Wash with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Use your fingertips rather than a scrubbing brush, then rinse away the cleanser.
2. 2Pat your face with a clean towel rather than rubbing. Leave your skin slightly damp when applying moisturizer to help trap water.
3. 3Apply any skin medication or treatment after cleansing, before moisturizer. Moisturizer comes last at night.
4. 4Apply lotion using the package directions. For a facial lotion without sunscreen, about a nickel sized amount for the entire face is a general starting point.
5. 5Finish your morning routine with broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher. If your moisturizer has no SPF, apply a separate sunscreen after it. Apply makeup after moisturizer and sunscreen.

Moisturize morning and night as a regular habit. Additional toners, serums and eye creams are not required to make this sequence work; a bathroom shelf does not need a supporting cast.45

Using AM SPF 30 takes a different approach

CeraVe tells you to apply AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 liberally as the final skincare step, 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply at least every two hours, and use a water resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating. Wait until AM is fully absorbed before applying makeup.
