Where does it go in your evening routine?
- 1Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and gently pat dry.
- 2Apply any skin medication or treatment after cleansing, following its directions.
- 3Apply the night cream as your moisturizer.
You do not have to add another product aimed at ageing just because you use a night cream. Extra bottles are not compulsory colleagues for the jar you already own. Using several products aimed at ageing can irritate skin and make signs of ageing more noticeable.1
Can you use it if you have acne?
Having oily skin or acne does not automatically mean skipping moisturizer. Benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, adapalene, tazarotene, tretinoin and isotretinoin tend to dry and irritate skin. A daily moisturizer can help skin tolerate these treatments. For acne, choose a moisturizer labelled noncomedogenic, meaning unlikely to clog pores, or one labelled oil free. Check the exact NIVEA jar rather than assuming those descriptions apply.2
What if your cream contains bakuchiol?
If your ingredient list includes bakuchiol, research suggests potential benefits for wrinkles and pigmentation from sun damage. Bakuchiol has been studied as an alternative to retinol, but more research is needed. A promising ingredient is not a performance report for every jar, despite the convenient shortcut that would offer marketing departments. There is no established timeline here for visible results from your exact NIVEA cream.3
When should you be careful?
If your routine is irritating your skin, avoid adding more products aimed at ageing and speak with a dermatologist about the combination. Bakuchiol is not automatically free of reaction risks: contact dermatitis, an inflammatory skin reaction, has been reported. Pregnancy suitability and compatibility with a particular prescription need checking for the complete formula, not deciding from the night cream name.13
