The Ordinary gives you twice the volume for less money, a rare case where the longer product name is not the expensive part. Those are US prices; The Inkey List's Canadian listing is $19 for 15 ml.15

Which one should you pick?

The Ordinary is the budget choice if serum format suits your routine. The Inkey List makes more sense if hydration and a cream texture are priorities. The choice is a serum versus a cream, not two identical products wearing different logos.12

Do not choose on caffeine percentage alone. Eye cream research is promising, but differences in formulas, concentrations and testing make effectiveness difficult to compare. A higher concentration is not enough to rank these two products, and ingredient research cannot tell you which finished formula will work better for you.3

Will either help your dark circles or bags?

Caffeine can help reduce fluid retention, making fluid related puffiness a reasonable target. Bags can also involve weakened supporting tissue and displaced fat. Dark circles have several possible causes, including visible blood vessels, genetics, sun related pigmentation and shadows from hollows called tear troughs. Treating fluid buildup is not the same as treating pigment or a hollow.56

The Inkey List reports hydration and improved puffiness and dark circles from first use in a four week clinical study of 22 people. Its stated timeline is two weeks for results and up to six weeks for full results. There is no established comparison timeline for deciding that The Ordinary works faster.7

How do you apply them?

  1. 1For The Inkey List, cleanse and apply your hydrating products and serums first.
  2. 2Morning and evening, gently pat a pea sized amount shared between both eyes around the eye contour with your ring finger. The brand advises applying to damp skin.
  3. 3Keep the cream away from the eyelids, waterline and eyes.
  4. 4Apply moisturizer afterwards, then sunscreen in the morning.
7

Check The Ordinary bottle for its application amount and frequency rather than borrowing the cream's directions. As general eye area guidance, apply gently without pulling the skin and avoid the eyelids, where product can migrate into the eye.5

Who should be careful?

The Inkey List lists its cream as suitable for sensitive skin, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and advises patch testing. That suitability statement applies to its cream, not automatically to The Ordinary serum. The Inkey List cream contains beeswax and is not vegan.7

The eye area is delicate, and redness or sudden dryness can reflect irritation from a product. Seek medical advice for persistent or worsening dark circles rather than repeatedly switching eye products. Call a healthcare provider if darkness or swelling appears under just one eye, or if swelling is excessive.56
