What makes it suitable for sensitive skin?

Sensibio H2O uses micelles, tiny cleansing droplets that capture impurities while preserving the skin's natural protective film. The US formula is unfragranced and has a pH of around 5.5. Bioderma lists it for adults and teenagers with sensitive skin, across all skin types. Sensitive does not mean exclusively dry: the Sensibio range is organised around sensitivity rather than one level of oiliness.1

Sensitive skin can involve discomfort and visible redness. Sensibio H2O's role is cleansing and makeup removal, with soothing benefits. Micellar water removes makeup and impurities in one step, which is a modest job description by skincare marketing standards.23

How do you use Sensibio H2O?

  1. 1Soak a cotton pad with Sensibio H2O.
  2. 2Gently cleanse your face and remove makeup from your face and eyes. Include your neck.
  3. 3For heavy or longwear eye makeup, let the soaked pad sit on your eyelids for a few seconds.
  4. 4Leave the product on without rinsing, as Bioderma directs.

Both the Canadian micellar water directions and the German Sensibio H2O directions specify morning and/or evening use, seven days a week. Rinsing is not a required final step. The intended sequence is simply to soak the pad, cleanse gently and finish; you do not need to turn the cleansing water into a rinse off face wash to follow those directions.34

What should you expect, and how soon?

Cleansing and makeup removal happen during use. For the German product, Bioderma reports 99% makeup removal in an evaluation involving 10 people. That figure describes makeup removal, not a percentage reduction in sensitivity. The same product is described as immediately refreshing and soothing.4

Comfort changes were tracked in a 28 day observational survey of 400 Sensibio H2O users, 82% of whom reported sensitive skin. Participants rated the frequency of itching, tightness, tingling and burning themselves. Their combined discomfort score improved from day two and continued improving at days 14 and 28. By day 28, 90% reported improvement. These were experiences recorded during people's existing routines, without changing their daily face hygiene.5

Which bottle and formula are you buying?

Choose standard Sensibio H2O for the cleansing directions above; Sensibio H2O eye is a separate product. The standard H2O removes face and eye makeup; H2O eye is a separate product, because even a bottle of cleansing water can acquire a sibling. The German H2O eye is described as a two phase makeup remover. For ingredient decisions, check your bottle's packaging: Bioderma notes that current online formulas and products still in distribution can differ.24

Bioderma Sensibio H2O for acne prone skin

If your skin is acne prone and sensitive, Sensibio H2O fits the sensitive skin cleansing role. Bioderma positions Sébium H2O for combination to oily and acne prone skin instead. Choose by the cleansing need, rather than treating the two names as interchangeable.3

For oily skin, general dermatology guidance is to cleanse up to twice daily and after sweating, avoid scrubbing and apply moisturizer after cleansing. Look for products labelled "noncomedogenic", meaning formulated not to clog pores. If a product irritates your skin, stop using it or use it less often. If you are struggling with blackheads or acne, a dermatologist can help you choose care beyond cleansing.6
