Brightening Serum targets uneven tone and hydration rather than making exfoliation the main event. BYOMA reports clinical improvements in hyperpigmentation, meaning darker patches of skin, as well as more even and radiant tone. Niacinamide is included to brighten and even tone, while hyaluronic acid supports hydration. Choose Brightening Serum when brightness and uneven color matter more than pore congestion.1
Clarifying Serum takes a different route: gentle exfoliation, smoother texture and help unclogging pores. BYOMA reports clinical improvements in texture, hydration, smoothness and the skin barrier. Its blue tansy is included to help calm and soothe skin, and gluconolactone is the exfoliant. Clarifying Serum also contains niacinamide and sodium hyaluronate, so the two bottles are not a strict split between exfoliation and hydration.24
BYOMA's brightening collection includes cleansers, serums, sunscreen and sets, so 'brightening' is a shelf category, not an instruction to buy the shelf. Pick the serum that matches your main concern before considering extra products.5
How to use BYOMA in a glow routine
- 1Cleanse gently. Use warm rather than hot water and a mild, soap free cleanser. Massage the cleanser on, then rinse; a longer massage does not add cleansing benefits.
- 2Apply your chosen serum. BYOMA directs you to press 4 to 6 drops onto cleansed skin until fully absorbed. These are leave on serums, not products to rinse away.
- 3Follow with moisturizer. For Brightening Serum, BYOMA specifies hydrating serum followed by moisturizer. For Clarifying Serum, the next specified step is moisturizer.
- 4Use sunscreen every day. Apply sunscreen before going outside to exposed skin. If dark spots are your main concern, choose a tinted sunscreen with iron oxide, SPF 30 or higher, broad spectrum protection and water resistance.
- 5Reapply sunscreen outdoors. For dark spot prevention, reapply every two hours and after swimming or sweating, and wear a wide brimmed hat.
BYOMA's application directions do not specify a morning or evening schedule, a daily frequency or active ingredient percentages for either serum. For Clarifying Serum, use general exfoliation guidance: frequency depends on your skin type and the exfoliation method, and more aggressive exfoliation needs less frequent use. Do not assume twice daily application is necessary for a brighter result.47
Why moisturizer matters as much as the serum
Your skin barrier is the protective outer layer that keeps water in and helps keep harmful substances out. Ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids are natural fats within that barrier, and both serums include these ingredients. Moisturizers help keep the barrier healthy; a serum step does not cancel the moisturizer step. The serum gets the product name, but moisturizer still has a job.3
Harsh soaps, excessive scrubbing and not moisturizing can damage the barrier. Dryness, flaking, rough patches, itchiness and stinging with skincare can accompany barrier damage. If your routine is producing those symptoms, focus on gentle cleansing and moisturizer rather than adding more exfoliation. When an underlying skin condition is involved, a dermatologist can help tailor care.3
Who should be careful with Clarifying Serum?
Exfoliation removes dead cells from the skin's surface, but it is not necessary or suitable for everyone. Dry, sensitive or acne prone skin can find mechanical scrubs too irritating. Strong exfoliation can also increase pigmentation in darker skin tones or in people who develop dark spots after skin injuries. A gentler approach matters more than chasing the strongest exfoliant.7
Check your existing routine before adding Clarifying Serum. Prescription retinoids, retinol and benzoyl peroxide can make skin more sensitive or cause peeling; adding exfoliation can worsen dryness or breakouts. Do not exfoliate sunburned skin or areas with open cuts or wounds. Follow exfoliation with moisturizer, and ask a dermatologist whether exfoliation is useful if you are unsure.7
Stop using a product if it burns or stings. Irritation from skincare can trigger dark spots, particularly in darker skin tones. Both serums are described by BYOMA as fragrance free and noncomedogenic, but choose your next step based on how your skin responds rather than treating those descriptions as a promise of tolerance.126
How long does a glow take?
Neither serum comes with a fixed results timetable in BYOMA's directions. Treat the serum name as a description of its job, not a deadline. Brightening Serum targets radiance, hydration and uneven tone; Clarifying Serum is intended to produce smoother, brighter looking skin with regular use.4
Separate a hydrated appearance from fading established dark spots. Once the cause of pigmentation has stopped, a spot a few shades darker than your natural skin color usually fades within 6 to 12 months; deeper discoloration can take years. Barrier repair also takes patience: benefits from changes in products and habits typically begin to show after three or four months. Those are general recovery timelines, not BYOMA serum deadlines.36
If uneven tone comes from recurring breakouts or irritation, address that cause alongside sunscreen rather than relying on brightening skincare alone. Iron oxide in tinted sunscreen helps protect against visible light, which can contribute to dark spots. If dark spots keep appearing or your treatment is not delivering the results you want, see a dermatologist; some pigmentation needs prescription treatment.6
