Sulfur helps break down blackheads and whiteheads. Sulfur soap is an acne treatment, so the word "soap" is doing some administrative camouflage. Using a treatment bar and washing with a mild cleanser are not automatically the same job.12

How do you use sulfur soap?

Contact time and frequency belong to the particular product. For RoyceDerm's 10% sulfur soap, follow this sequence:1

  1. 1Create a rich lather with the mesh bag.
  2. 2Gently apply the lather only to areas affected by acne, avoiding broken skin, large skin areas and the eyes.
  3. 3Leave the lather on for 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. 4Rinse thoroughly with water and pat dry with a clean towel.

For general acne cleansing, use a mild cleanser in the morning, evening and after heavy exercise, and rinse with lukewarm water. Apply facial cleanser with your fingertips rather than scrubbing with a washcloth or sponge. Fingertips are enough for a gentle facial cleanse, which keeps the bathroom from becoming an equipment department. Do not interpret advice to cleanse after sweating as an instruction to add another sulfur treatment.23

When should you be careful or stop?

Topical acne medicines can cause irritation, burning or redness. If your skin is already sensitive or irritated, do not push through those symptoms to maintain a daily schedule. Talk to your doctor about side effects.12

Stop RoyceDerm and consult a doctor if excessive irritation occurs, acne worsens, or the condition does not improve with regular use as directed. If the soap gets into your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water.1

How long should you wait for results?

Acne treatments can take several weeks to a few months to show a difference; that is general acne guidance, not a specific sulfur soap deadline. Avoid repeatedly switching treatments, which can irritate skin and cause breakouts. Persistent breakouts are a reason to see a dermatologist.3
