Which Skin1004 sunscreen are you using?

Skin1004 sells several sunscreens; the Hyalu Cica Water Fit Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ discussed here is a chemical sunscreen, not the mineral Air Fit Suncream range. Skin1004 describes Water Fit as hydrating, quickly absorbed and dewy, and lists sensitive, normal, dry and combination skin among its intended users. A light finish describes how sunscreen feels, not how your pores will respond, because texture is not a character reference.23

Water Fit contains niacinamide, glycerin, Centella asiatica extract and several forms of hyaluronic acid. Choosing a sunscreen by one ingredient alone misses the rest of the formula. Likewise, a noncomedogenic label, meaning a claim that a product will not clog pores, helps narrow your choices but has no standardised test behind it.13

Are the bumps acne or irritation?

Clogged pores, called comedones, form when oil and dead skin cells build up inside a pore. They can look like small skin coloured bumps, whiteheads or blackheads and are usually not tender or swollen. Greasy personal care products can increase the risk, but hormones and genetics also contribute. Timing alone cannot identify the culprit.4

Stinging, burning or a rash are reasons to stop the new sunscreen immediately, rather than continuing a trial. If sunscreen stings or burns, choose a fragrance free alternative containing only zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.15

How to check whether the sunscreen suits you

  1. 1Introduce only the sunscreen as a new product. Check whether you also changed your cleanser, moisturiser or acne treatment around the same time.
  2. 2Keep your existing routine simple. Do not add a new exfoliating acid or retinoid during the sunscreen trial, and follow your dermatologist's instructions for prescribed treatment.
  3. 3Apply sunscreen in the morning after your other skincare layers have settled. Skin1004 directs you to apply Water Fit evenly as the last skincare step on exposed areas.
  4. 4If there is no irritation, assess roughly two weeks of consistent daily use. Closed comedones take time to surface, so one clear morning or one early spot is not a reliable verdict.
  5. 5Cleanse gently at night to remove sunscreen. Use a mild face wash rather than scrubbing or trying to dry out your skin.

What should you use instead?

For oily or acne prone skin, look for a sunscreen labelled noncomedogenic or "won't clog pores". Choose SPF 30 or higher with UVA and UVB protection and water resistance. Apply enough for even coverage before going outdoors and reapply every two hours outdoors. Use shade and protective clothing too.567

Do not automatically remove moisturiser because you have breakouts. Oily skin still needs hydration, and acne treatments such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and retinoids can cause dryness or irritation. A light moisturiser can support comfort without adding another acne active. Follow any prescribed application order rather than rearranging medication around sunscreen.26

When should you see a dermatologist?

Seek help for persistent or painful acne, or when your treatment is not giving you the results you need. Comedonal acne can start improving after eight to twelve weeks of appropriate care and treatment, but clearing it can take months. That is a treatment timeline, not a reason to keep using an irritating sunscreen.24

Sunscreen helps protect against dark marks after acne, but it does not clear active acne, even when "serum" gives it a second job title.15
