Which Hyalu Cica product do you have?
Look for the complete product name and market of sale before checking a formula or following application instructions. The names are nearly identical, so the shopping trip comes with a small proofreading assignment. Hyalu Cica Blue Serum is a separate hydrating serum, not the sunscreen discussed here.23
| Product | What to expect | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Korean Water Fit Sun Serum 50ml | Hydrating sunscreen positioned as having a nonsticky feel. | Use its own label for ingredients, protection rating and directions. It has no water resistance labeling. |
| US Water Fit Sun Serum UV 50ml | Broad spectrum SPF 50 with a light, watery texture. SKIN1004 describes a fresh, nongreasy finish without a white cast. | Look for the UV name and US Drug Facts directions. |
| Hyalu Cica Blue Serum | A lightweight hydrating serum containing centella, hyaluronic acids, niacinamide and Ceramide NP. | Do not confuse its hydrating role with the separately named sunscreen. |
What is in the US sunscreen?
The US Sun Serum UV contains four sunscreen actives: avobenzone 2.7%, homosalate 13.6%, octisalate 4.5% and octocrylene 9%. It is a chemical sunscreen, rather than a mineral sunscreen containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Its inactive ingredients include Centella asiatica extract, panthenol, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate and hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate. The sunscreen actives provide UV protection; centella and hyaluronic acid are not substitutes for those filters. SKIN1004 updates ingredient lists, so check your packaging for the current formula.1456
What does SPF 50 mean?
SPF means sun protection factor and primarily describes protection against UVB, the rays that cause sunburn. Broad spectrum means protection against both UVB and UVA, which contributes to skin aging. SPF 50 does not mean you can stay outside 50 times longer or skip reapplication. No sunscreen filters out every UVB ray. Use shade, protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses alongside sunscreen rather than treating the bottle as your entire sun protection plan.46
Who should consider it?
The US version is worth considering if you want a watery sunscreen with hydration and a nongreasy finish. SKIN1004 describes it as helping skin feel hydrated, soothed and comfortable. Those texture descriptions are not a reason to expect the sunscreen to treat acne or prevent breakouts. For sensitive skin, mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are the dermatologist recommended alternative. A hydrating product name alone cannot tell you whether application will sting or irritate your skin.124
How do you apply it?
- 1Finish your other skincare first. SKIN1004 directs you to apply the US Sun Serum UV as the last step of basic skincare.
- 2Apply liberally and evenly to exposed skin. Cover your face, neck and other uncovered areas rather than stopping at the jaw.
- 3Apply the US version 15 minutes before sun exposure. Follow the Korean bottle's own directions if that is your product.
- 4Reapply the US version at least every two hours. Outdoors, general sunscreen guidance also calls for reapplication immediately after swimming or sweating.
For the face, general dermatology guidance specifies at least one teaspoon, approximately the amount covering the length of your index and middle fingers. Most adults need at least one ounce to cover all skin not covered by clothing, with more needed depending on body size. These are general sunscreen amounts, not a product specific pump count. Rub sunscreen thoroughly into the skin and remember the ears, back of the neck, hands and tops of the feet. Use sunscreen before going outside even in winter or on cloudy days.7
How do you reapply over makeup?
First check whether you can spread sunscreen evenly over the existing makeup, sweat and product residue. If something obstructs application, remove it as needed and reapply sunscreen; foundation sometimes needs to be redone. A smooth looking layer cannot tell you its remaining SPF, however qualified the bathroom mirror feels. Do not reduce the amount to preserve the makeup finish.2
If sunscreen rolls into visible crumbs, restore an even application instead of assuming the smooth patches provide adequate coverage. When the same combination repeatedly pills, change one optional skincare or makeup layer at a time. A moisturizing finish does not replace reapplication.2
Can you wear it swimming?
The Korean Water Fit Sun Serum has not undergone water resistance testing and carries no water resistance labeling. Choose a separate sunscreen labeled water resistant for swimming or heavy sweating. Water resistant sunscreens specify either 40 or 80 minutes of effectiveness while swimming or sweating; follow that label and reapply after toweling off. No sunscreen is waterproof. For the US Sun Serum UV, check your own package for water resistance labeling rather than borrowing a claim from another version or interpreting Water Fit as a test result.246
When should you stop using it?
The US label says to stop use and ask a doctor if a rash occurs. Do not apply it to damaged or broken skin. Keep it out of your eyes, and rinse with water if it gets into them. It is for external use only and should be kept out of children's reach. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. For children younger than six months, ask a doctor before using sunscreen; keeping infants out of direct sun and using protective clothing are the preferred measures.56
How should you store it?
Protect the container from excessive heat and direct sunlight. Outdoors, keep it shaded or wrap it in a towel rather than leaving it in the sun. Do not use sunscreen past its expiration date. For US sunscreen without an expiration date, consider it expired three years after purchase. Discard it if you do not know how old it is. Storage and age matter even when the product still looks usable.6
How much does the US version cost?
SKIN1004 lists the 50ml Sun Serum UV at a regular price of $19, with a displayed sale price of $17.10. Check the current price when buying, and compare the same market and bottle size rather than treating every Hyalu Cica listing as the same sunscreen.1
