Which COSRX patch does this cover?
The original Acne Pimple Master Patch in the Korean pack contains 24 patches: ten measuring 7 mm, five measuring 10 mm and nine measuring 12 mm. The pack contains three sizes, because even a small sticker comes with a selection process. COSRX calls the original version Acne Pimple Master Patch, which is a fairly senior title for a small dressing.2
COSRX identifies hydrocolloid as the main material. The Korean ingredient list includes petroleum resin, cellulose gum, styrene isoprene styrene block copolymer, polyurethane film, polyisobutylene, liquid paraffin and tetrakismethane. These product details apply to that original patch, not automatically to every COSRX patch version.2
What do pimple patches actually do?
Hydrocolloid is a slightly gummy gel used in wound dressings. A pimple patch absorbs fluid such as pus and oil, while covering the area so you cannot keep picking at it. That makes a patch useful for an individual draining spot. It does not prevent future breakouts or replace acne treatment.13
How do you apply COSRX pimple patches?
Use these general hydrocolloid steps, and follow the wear and replacement directions on your particular COSRX pack.
- 1Wash the affected area. If the pimple has already been popped, clean it gently with mild soap and water.
- 2Dry the skin thoroughly. Patch adhesive does not stick as well to wet skin.
- 3Apply the patch directly over the spot.
- 4Leave the patch on for the time specified on your pack, then remove it. Many hydrocolloid patches are intended for several hours of wear or overnight use.
Will the pimple disappear overnight?
After a few hours of wear, the spot may look smaller and less inflamed. Complete overnight clearance is not something to count on. Closed pimples respond less well, and patches offer little help for blackheads or deeper whiteheads.1
What if the pimple is deep and painful?
Do not rely on a patch to treat deep acne. A hydrocolloid dressing can protect the surface and support healing, but it cannot substitute for treatment of a lump beneath the skin. Do not squeeze or puncture a pimple to give the patch something to absorb: picking can increase infection, discoloration and scarring.35
For a deep, painful spot, apply a clean, warm, damp washcloth for 10 to 15 minutes, three times daily. Use a clean washcloth each time and resist popping the spot as it moves closer to the surface.5
Can sensitive skin use pimple patches?
Unmedicated hydrocolloid patches can be a better choice than medicated patches for sensitive skin. Benzoyl peroxide patches can irritate, and tea tree oil can cause allergic reactions. Adhesive itself can also aggravate skin that is sensitive or allergic to it. Stop using a patch if it irritates the surrounding skin.14
What belongs alongside patches?
For recurring acne, treatments such as retinoids, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid have different jobs: unclogging pores, reducing bacteria and easing inflammation. Keep the rest of an acne treatment routine gentle, with a gentle cleanser and moisturizer, because acne products can cause dryness. A patch is local care for one spot, not a reason to replace an existing treatment plan.3
Inflamed acne spots can leave dark marks, and sun exposure increases that risk. Protect exposed skin with a broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, alongside shade and protective clothing. Look for sunscreen labelled noncomedogenic, meaning it will not clog pores.5
When should you see a dermatologist?
Seek help if a deep, painful pimple does not go away with home care, or if you develop several deep, painful spots. Multiple pimples each week are also a reason to discuss a treatment plan. For a large, painful bump, a dermatologist can assess whether an injection or prescription treatment is appropriate.45
