Is it the same as ordinary Rescue Balm?
Rescue Balm and Rescue Balm +Red Correct are different products, despite names that make the plus sign do most of the work. Choose +Red Correct if you want the green colour correcting cream; ordinary Rescue Balm is sold as a recovery cream for skin after a blemish.13
| Product | Purpose | US listed price |
|---|---|---|
| Rescue Balm +Red Correct | Hydration and green colour correction for redness | $12.99 |
| Rescue Balm | Recovery cream for skin after a blemish | $12.99 |
What should you expect from the green colour?
Green corrector neutralises the appearance of red tones. Colour correction is different from concealer: concealers are generally thicker and more opaque than foundation, while correctors adjust unwanted colour. A corrector can also be blended with concealer to improve the colour match. Getting a colour match can take practice, even when the tube's name sounds like the work has already been done.4
How should it fit into your routine?
Use the directions on your Rescue Balm +Red Correct tube for the amount, application frequency and position among your other products. For redness associated with rosacea, the following is general skincare guidance, not a specific Hero application schedule.2
- 1Cleanse gently with a mild cleanser and your fingertips. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a clean towel.
- 2Moisturize after cleansing, even if your skin feels oily.
- 3During the day, protect exposed skin with a broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen rated SPF 30 or higher. For rosacea, look for zinc oxide, titanium dioxide or both.
- 4Use colour correcting makeup if you want to camouflage redness, following the product's own application directions.
- 5Remove cosmetic camouflage from your face and neck before bed, then follow your normal facial cleansing routine.
What if your skin is sensitive?
If you have sensitive skin or rosacea, test a new product on a quarter sized area inside your arm every day for 7 to 10 days before using it on your face. Proceed only if the test area stays clear. Some makeup can irritate sensitive skin; avoid using a product that irritates yours. For rosacea, look for products made for sensitive skin and labelled noncomedogenic, meaning they are designed not to clog pores.24
When does redness need more than coverage?
Make an appointment with a dermatologist if redness or related symptoms persist despite changes to your skincare. Rosacea can involve flushing, visible blood vessels, swelling, burning or stinging, and recurring breakouts, but other conditions can look similar. A dermatologist can identify the cause and choose treatment rather than leaving you to treat colour alone.2
