What does Red Correct actually do?
The encapsulated pigments start green and turn beige as you blend, changing colour within seconds. The coverage is sheer, so the balm is doing a touch up rather than auditioning as wall paint. Its moisturizing ingredients include panthenol, also called vitamin B5, plus beta glucan and oligopeptides.1
Green colour correctors neutralize the appearance of red tones. That is cosmetic camouflage: changing how a colour looks, rather than treating the condition behind it. Concealers are generally thicker and more opaque than foundation, so sheer colour correction and fuller coverage are different jobs. Getting a natural looking match can take practice.2
How do you apply it?
- 1Cleanse gently with your fingertips rather than scrubbing with a washcloth or sponge.
- 2Dab Red Correct onto the areas where you want to soften visible redness.
- 3Blend until the green pigments turn beige.
- 4Wear the sheer coverage alone, or use the balm as a primer under makeup.
- 5Remove the tinted product before bed with your normal facial cleansing routine.
Hero positions Red Correct as a daytime balm for red marks, uneven tone and dry skin, not just for use after a pimple. Keep your sunscreen step separate: general acne skincare calls for broad spectrum, water resistant SPF 30 or higher on exposed skin outdoors. Some acne medications increase sensitivity to sunlight.13
Red Correct or Original Rescue Balm?

| Main role | Moisturizing balm with sheer redness coverage | Post blemish recovery cream for dry skin and the appearance of marks |
| Tint | Green pigments turn beige during blending | No colour correcting tint |

| Use | Daytime coverage, alone or as a makeup primer | Cleanse and dry skin, then apply to the area once daily |
| Skin tone consideration | Recommended by Hero for fair to medium complexions | Hero suggests Original for darker complexions |
Choose Red Correct when visible redness is the thing you want to cover. Choose Original when you want moisturizing care without a tint, especially if the beige finish looks pale on your complexion. Original is the untinted option, despite having the name of a product that arrived before the committee started adding words.1
Original Rescue Balm is listed at US$12.99 for 15 ml. Hero tells you to use Original after a blemish has run its course, after cleanser and before the rest of your skincare. Those are Original's directions, not a reason to put a tinted makeup primer in the same place.4
Will it clear pimples or fade marks?
Use Red Correct for the immediate appearance of redness and for moisturizing care, rather than as your acne treatment. Acne treatments use ingredients such as adapalene, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or azelaic acid. For adult acne, effective medication can produce fewer breakouts in 4 to 8 weeks and clearing around 16 weeks; those timelines are for acne medication, not tinted coverage.15
Original Rescue Balm's consumer testing involved 107 participants assessing their skin after multiple applications. In that test, 87% agreed that Original improved the appearance of post blemish marks. Keep that result attached to Original rather than using it to predict what Red Correct will do.4
If you are treating acne alongside redness, give the acne treatment time to work instead of repeatedly switching products. Picking or squeezing makes acne take longer to clear and increases the risk of scars and dark marks. A colour corrector covers colour.3
What if you have sensitive skin or rosacea?
Hero advises speaking to your doctor or dermatologist before using Red Correct if you have eczema or psoriasis. Stop using a cosmetic that irritates your skin rather than continuing for the coverage.12
Green tinted cosmetics can minimize the appearance of rosacea redness, but rosacea needs its own management. General rosacea care includes frequent moisturizing, gentle cleansers, avoiding exfoliants and alcohol based topical products, and using mineral sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Cosmetic products themselves can trigger symptoms, so coverage is only useful if the product is comfortable to wear.6
When should redness get medical attention?
See a doctor if facial redness keeps returning, becomes persistent, or comes with burning or stinging when you use water or skincare. Rosacea can resemble acne and several forms of dermatitis, so appearance alone is not enough to identify the cause. If you have rosacea with eye pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity, a red eye or a gritty feeling, seek urgent medical advice.7
Deep, painful pimples or acne that leaves scars need a dermatologist rather than more camouflage. If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, ask a dermatologist before starting acne treatment yourself because some nonprescription acne treatments are unsafe during pregnancy.5
