The French version is intended for experienced acid exfoliation users, while the Canadian version is labelled for professional use only. If you have the Canadian product, do not treat the shared 10 minute limit as permission to use it at home.12

Do I need to reach the full 10 minutes?

Ten minutes is a maximum, not a minimum you must endure. Do not extend the time or leave the peel on overnight. AHA means alpha hydroxy acid, a group of acids that encourages surface skin cells to shed. BHA means beta hydroxy acid; this formula contains salicylic acid. Exfoliation strength depends on the acids, their concentration, the formula's acidity and its other ingredients. Instructions for another acid product are not interchangeable with this peel's directions.2345

How to apply and rinse the peel

  1. 1Cleanse your face, then let your skin dry completely. Do not apply the peel to wet skin.
  2. 2Apply evenly over the face and neck with your fingertips, avoiding the eye area. Use only on intact skin.
  3. 3Set a timer so contact with your skin does not exceed 10 minutes. Rinse sooner if irritation develops.
  4. 4Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, keeping the product away from your eyes during rinsing.

The Ordinary directs use once or twice a week, ideally in the evening, and never more than twice weekly. Using a shorter application does not give you permission to add extra sessions.1

What should I check before using it?

Patch test before a full application. Apply a small amount to a clean area of the upper forearm, keep the area dry and rinse within the product's specified contact time. Do not use the product if redness, burning, itching, blisters or irritation appear during the test. This peel is not for beginners or for sensitive, damaged or already peeling skin. BHA products should not be used on infants or children.125

What should I use after rinsing?

General chemical peel aftercare includes a gentle moisturizer and gentle cleansing. Aftercare is deliberately less elaborate than the product name, which has already done enough paperwork. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure while using the peel and for one week afterwards. Applying it at night does not remove the need for daytime sun protection.36

The Ordinary lists retinoids, other direct acids, direct vitamin C, peptides including copper peptides, niacinamide powder and EUK 134 0.1% as incompatible pairings. Its list also includes Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner, GF 15% Solution and Multi Active Delivery Essence. If you use prescription tretinoin or adapalene, discuss peeling with your prescriber before adding it: these medicines can make a chemical peel act more deeply. Do not change prescription treatment on your own.26

What results and reactions should I expect?

The peel targets uneven texture, dullness and uneven tone, so its job description is shorter than its name. There is no established number of applications here for seeing results from this exact product. General home peel guidance describes improvements after several treatments, rather than a reason to extend one application.26

Chemical peels can cause redness, flaking and sensitivity. Persistent stinging or irritation means stop and consult a doctor; burning, itching or swelling also warrants medical advice. Professional peel healing schedules do not tell you how long this bottle belongs on your skin: during a clinical peel, the dermatologist watches the skin and decides when to remove the solution. Pregnancy can increase the risk of abnormal pigmentation after a peel, so discuss suitability with your clinician rather than assuming this strong formula is suitable because some individual AHAs are used during pregnancy.567
