These directions cover Anti Pigment Dual Serum; the US Radiant Tone Dual Serum also goes after cleansing and before moisturizer, but its range has separate precautions. The current UK Anti Pigment version comes in a single chamber bottle, despite a name that sounds committed to doubling everything.23
Apply it in this order
- 1Cleanse gently. Remove makeup, dirt and oil with a cleanser suited to your skin. Rinse a gel cleanser thoroughly with lukewarm water and dry your skin.
- 2Apply the Dual Serum to freshly cleansed skin. Put it on before your day or night cream, rather than over a layer of moisturizer.
- 3Let the serum absorb. As general layering guidance, Eucerin advises waiting a couple of minutes before applying your day or night cream.
- 4Apply moisturizer. Use your day cream in the morning and your night moisturizer in the evening.
- 5Finish with sunscreen in the morning. If you use a separate sunscreen, apply it after moisturizer. The evening routine does not need sunscreen.
Moisturizer follows the serum, because putting the thick layer first turns the routine into an obstacle course. A rich moisturizer can form a barrier that prevents a lighter serum applied over it from fully reaching the skin.2
How often can you use it?
Eucerin's Anti Pigment routine places Dual Serum in both the morning and evening routine. Count every application of a product containing Thiamidol toward the daily maximum of four. Serum in the morning and evening uses two applications. Adding a Thiamidol day cream in the morning and a Thiamidol night cream in the evening brings the total to four. Adding another Thiamidol product would exceed that limit.15
When should dark spots start fading?
Eucerin gives two weeks as the first visible results point for the UK Anti Pigment Dual Serum. Expect gradual fading rather than complete removal at that point. Regular use supports continued improvement. Hyperpigmentation means darker patches caused by extra melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. Completely removing those patches can be difficult, and sunlight can make existing spots darker.135
Which sunscreen should you use with it?
For dark spots, choose a tinted sunscreen containing iron oxide, with broad spectrum protection, water resistance and SPF 30 or higher. Iron oxide helps protect against visible light, which can worsen melasma, especially in darker skin tones. Apply sunscreen 15 minutes before going outside, reapply at least every two hours and after swimming or sweating, and use shade and a wide brimmed hat outdoors. These are general dark spot care steps, not extra serum applications.67
Who should be careful?
Anti Pigment Dual Serum is marketed for all skin types. Stop using a product if it burns or stings: irritation can cause or worsen dark spots. Choose gentle surrounding skincare. For the US Radiant Tone range specifically, Eucerin says not to use it on active acne breakouts or irritated skin.2567
See a dermatologist or pharmacist if a spot bleeds, itches, or changes size or color. If fading treatment is not giving you the results you want, a dermatologist can assess the cause and combine treatments safely. Do not stop prescribed medication because you suspect it is causing pigmentation; ask the prescriber about it.56
