Which Innisfree sunscreen stick do you have?

The US Daily UV Defense stick differs from the regional Intensive Leisure sticks sold in Taiwan and Vietnam. The Innisfree logo is shared across regional sticks, but it is not an instruction manual.13

How do you apply enough?

Innisfree's US directions say to swipe twice. General dermatologist guidance for sunscreen sticks is four passes back and forth over each area, followed by rubbing in for even coverage. Use that more generous technique rather than treating a quick swipe as complete coverage.15

  1. 1Finish your moisturizer, then apply the US stick before makeup. Allow at least 15 minutes before sun exposure; the Vietnam Intensive Leisure directions specify 30 minutes.
  2. 2Twist up the stick and cover each exposed area with four passes back and forth. Include your face, neck, ears, backs of hands and other uncovered skin.
  3. 3Rub the sunscreen in to spread an even layer and cover missed spots.
  4. 4Reapply at least every two hours outdoors and immediately after swimming or sweating. Reapply after towelling off too.

What does it feel like, including over makeup?

The US stick is designed for an invisible, non greasy satin finish with a pore blurring effect. In a home use survey of 30 women after one week, 86% felt it reapplied over makeup without smudging and 83% reported no pilling. Allow for makeup movement rather than expecting every top up to leave your base untouched.1

Is it mineral, and does it contain fragrance?

The US stick uses avobenzone 2.7%, homosalate 6.8% and octisalate 4.5%, not mineral sunscreen filters. Its ingredient list includes fragrance, limonene and linalool, alongside green tea, sunflower seed oil and centella extract. Read your package's ingredient list before buying again because formulas can change.7

What if your skin is sensitive or prone to breakouts?

Innisfree describes the US stick as noncomedogenic, meaning tested not to clog pores, and suitable for sensitive skin. For a new sunscreen, test a small area of your inner forearm and check for a reaction after 48 hours, especially if your skin is sensitive. Stop using it if a rash, itching or another reaction develops, and speak to a healthcare professional about a concerning reaction. If you have a known ingredient sensitivity or allergy, check the label and ask before using it.12

Can you use it for swimming or outdoor exercise?

The US stick's water resistance lasts 40 minutes during swimming or sweating, not an entire afternoon. No sunscreen is waterproof, including products with that word in their name. Reapply after swimming or sweating rather than waiting for the usual two hour interval. Use shade, protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses too; sunscreen does not block all ultraviolet rays.567

Do you need a lotion as well?

Innisfree pairs its 100 mL Daily UV Defense lotion with the stick: lotion for all over wear, stick for quick reapplication. A lotion for all over application and a stick for top ups is a practical split, not a requirement to collect sunscreen formats. The stick can cover face and body; whichever format you choose, apply enough and keep coverage even.7

How should you keep the stick?

Keep sunscreen out of direct sunlight and excessive heat, including a hot car, and replace expired sunscreen. Taiwan's stick directions also specify wiping its surface with a clean paper towel after use and closing the cap. Keep those cleaning directions with that regional product rather than assuming every Innisfree stick has identical instructions.246
