Which Birch Juice sunscreen do you have?

The Canadian Round Lab pages describe UVLock SPF 45+, while the US Birch Juice Moisturizing UVLock label lists SPF 50 Broad Spectrum; these are not interchangeable formula descriptions. Check the SPF and full name on your tube, because "Birch Juice" is a family name, not a formula. The US SPF 50 version uses avobenzone 2.7%, homosalate 13.5% and octisalate 4.5%. Its other ingredients include niacinamide, birch juice, glycerin and hyaluronic acid.23

Will it feel greasy?

The SPF 45+ formula is designed to absorb quickly with a lightweight, non greasy finish and no white cast. A moisturizing sunscreen can still have a lightweight finish, so the product name is not an automatic rejection letter for oily skin. Niacinamide helps regulate oil production, while birch sap and panthenol supply hydration. The sunscreen's base matters more for how heavy it feels than whether its filters are chemical or mineral.1

How to apply it without unnecessary layers

  1. 1Start with clean skin. If you need moisturizer, use a lightweight lotion or gel and let it absorb for 60 seconds.
  2. 2Apply sunscreen generously and evenly. Round Lab suggests the two finger method and gentle patting for oily skin; the US SPF 50 label specifies application 15 minutes before sun exposure.
  3. 3Let sunscreen set for about a minute before applying makeup. Keep the full sunscreen amount even if you simplify the layers underneath.

Can you skip moisturizer?

You can often skip a separate morning moisturizer when a hydrating sunscreen supplies enough moisture. But oily skin can also feel dehydrated, especially when moving between summer heat and indoor air conditioning. If your skin feels tight rather than comfortably hydrated, keep a light moisturizer instead of stripping back every moisturizing step. The useful adjustment is a lighter format, not automatically removing hydration because your face looks shiny.12

What if you get shiny later?

Blot excess oil with a tissue before reapplying. Heat increases oil output, and sweat, touching your face and friction can disrupt sunscreen through the day. Reapply at least every two hours when outdoors, and after toweling off. For swimming or sweating, choose a sunscreen explicitly labeled water resistant. That designation means tested protection on wet skin for 40 or 80 minutes, depending on the label, not unlimited protection. Broad spectrum means protection against both UVA and UVB rays; SPF describes protection against sunburn. Use SPF 30 or higher, seek shade and cover exposed skin with clothing where practical.123567

Round Lab Birch Juice sunscreen for sensitive skin

If chemical sunscreens irritate your skin, consider a mineral formula containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These filters can be less irritating, and dermatologists recommend mineral sunscreen for sensitive skin. Round Lab's Birch Mild Up Sunscreen UVLock SPF 50+ is the mineral alternative described as fragrance free. The US moisturizing UVLock SPF 50 is different: its ingredient list includes Anthemis nobilis flower oil and Pinus sylvestris leaf oil. Check the exact ingredient list rather than choosing from the birch name alone.1345

For the US SPF 50 product, do not apply to damaged or broken skin. Keep sunscreen out of your eyes and rinse with water if it gets in them. Stop using the product and ask a doctor if a rash occurs.3
