The old Buffet name and the current Multi Peptide + HA name identify the same product line, because apparently a serum also needs a career rebrand. Match the name on your bottle before choosing directions.1

The Ordinary updates formulas, so use your box's ingredient list when checking a particular ingredient or allergy. Lists can differ by purchase date and region.1

What do the main ingredients do?

Peptides are short strings of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. In skincare, they can support proteins involved in skin strength and flexibility, including collagen and elastin. Some peptide research also suggests benefits for inflammation and visible aging. A peptide serum's performance depends on the whole formula, so the word "peptides" is not an employee of the month award.3

Hyaluronic acid and glycerin are useful ingredients for dry skin. A moisturizer containing either can be especially helpful when skin struggles to hold water. Those are general ingredient benefits, rather than a reason to skip moisturizer after this serum.14

How is Buffet + Copper Peptides different?

Multi Peptide + Copper Peptides 1% contains Copper Tripeptide 1, also called GHK Cu, alongside the seven peptides named above. It also contains Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, glycerin, both listed hyaluronic acid forms and amino acids. The Ordinary positions this version for more advanced signs of aging, with additional antioxidant support and benefits for the appearance of firmness, smoothness and fine lines.2

The copper formula is a water based serum labelled suitable for all skin types, and alcohol, oil and silicone free. Consider it if you specifically want copper peptides and can accommodate its extra compatibility restrictions. Do not treat the two bottles as interchangeable: The Ordinary tells you not to combine the copper version with retinoids, direct acids, direct vitamin C or strong antioxidants, including resveratrol and ferulic acid.2

How do you use Buffet?

  1. 1Cleanse your face.
  2. 2Apply a few drops of Multi Peptide + HA in the morning and evening, only on unbroken skin.
  3. 3Follow with moisturizer.

For Multi Peptide + HA, The Ordinary lists direct acids, direct vitamin C, salicylic acid, resveratrol and ferulic acid, and Multi Antioxidant Radiance Serum as combinations to avoid.1

Multi Peptide + HA targets dryness and visible aging. Improvements in crow's feet, smoothness, texture, elasticity and firmness were measured after eight weeks of regular use in a 30 person test.1

What if your skin is sensitive?

Peptide research specifically involving sensitive skin is limited, so do not choose Buffet solely because peptides sound gentle. Skincare formulas can cause irritant reactions or, less often, allergic reactions. Persistent dermatitis, meaning inflamed skin, can need medical treatment.56

Patch test either serum on a clean area of the upper forearm, keep the area dry and rinse after 24 hours. Do not use it if redness, burning, itching, blistering or irritation develops. If irritation occurs during normal use, rinse off, stop using the serum and consult a physician.2
