This is the serum previously called "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1%, because apparently a skincare bottle can also have a former stage name.1

What changes should you look for?

Look for smoother texture, improved elasticity and less noticeable fine lines, rather than expecting wrinkles to disappear. The serum targets dryness as well as visible signs of aging.1

Copper peptides promote production of collagen and elastin, proteins that support skin strength and flexibility. They also act as antioxidants and support production of substances such as hyaluronic acid, which helps cushion and lubricate tissues. These are general ingredient benefits, not a prediction of how much your face will change after using one bottle, however convenient a bottle sized forecast would be.2

Peptides are short strings of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. Peptides can help reduce inflammation, which contributes to visible skin aging. Their effectiveness depends on the complete formula: moisturizers, ingredients that hold water, vitamins and other components matter too. A peptide ingredient alone is not enough to judge how well a finished product will work, even if the product name gives peptides most of the speaking time.3

How do you use the serum?

  1. 1Cleanse your face.
  2. 2Apply a few drops of the serum to unbroken skin.
  3. 3Apply moisturizer afterwards.

The Ordinary directs morning and evening use. The serum is water based and listed as suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin with patch testing.1

What should you avoid using with it?

The Ordinary says not to use this serum with direct acids, including salicylic acid, direct vitamin C, retinoids or strong antioxidants. Its exclusions also include EUK, Resveratrol and Ferulic Acid, and Multi Antioxidant Radiance Serum.1

Patch test before starting

Apply a small amount to clean skin on your upper forearm, keep the area dry and rinse after 24 hours. Do not use the serum if redness, burning, itching, blistering or irritation appears. If irritation develops during facial use, rinse off, stop using the serum and consult a physician.1

Is it worth adding to your routine?

Peptides are an optional addition to cleansing, moisturizing and reducing sun exposure. Hyaluronic acid and retinoids are other effective options for aging skin and tend to cost less than peptide products. If your routine already includes a retinoid, the copper serum's compatibility restrictions matter more than adding another ingredient to the shelf.3
