What is the full ingredient list?
Aqua (Water), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Propanediol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Glucose, Maltose, Fructose, Trehalose, Sodium PCA, PCA, Sodium Lactate, Urea, Allantoin, Linoleic Acid, Oleic Acid, Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Lecithin, Triolein, Tocopherol, Carbomer, Isoceteth 20, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Pentylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.2
What are the ingredients meant to do?
Natural moisturizing factors are components of the skin's own hydration system. This formula mimics that system with a mixture of amino acids, fatty acids, triglycerides, urea, glycerin, sugars and sodium PCA. HA means hyaluronic acid, which helps skin retain moisture; sodium hyaluronate is the name listed in this cream. The moisturizer is designed to replenish moisture immediately, support the skin barrier over time and leave skin hydrated without a greasy residue. Regular use supports softer, smoother skin and improved moisture retention.3
Why might another ingredient list look different?
The National Eczema Association listing also includes Ethylhexylglycerin, which is not listed in the two manufacturer ingredient lists above. Use your own packaging to check the formula you have. Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA is the cream, not the separate Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum, because the plus signs are doing very little crowd control.23
How do you use the cream?
The Ordinary directs you to apply the cream after serums and treatments, in the moisturizing stage of your routine. Use it as needed, in the morning or evening. It is intended for daily use and all skin types. Apply only to intact skin.1
What if your skin is sensitive?
The cream appears in the National Eczema Association's Seal of Acceptance directory. If you have eczema or sensitive skin, check the ingredients for your known irritants or allergies. The Ordinary recommends a patch test before use: apply a small amount to clean upper forearm skin, keep it dry and rinse after 24 hours. Do not use it if the test causes redness, burning, itching, blistering or irritation. If irritation develops during use, rinse off, stop using the cream and consult a doctor promptly.123
