What if my skin is dry, oily or sensitive?

Skin that feels tight or scaly needs regular moisturizing. For a dry face, a lotion or gel is generally suitable unless the dryness is substantial; a cream name alone does not tell you how well a formula will suit you. Look for moisturizing ingredients rather than choosing by price. If your main preference is less visible shine, Whip's matte finish is a practical reason to consider it.145

Sensitive skin can also be dry, oily or combination. Choose a fragrance free version if fragrance bothers your skin, but remember that other ingredients can still cause a reaction. With combination skin, dry and oily areas can need different care rather than the same amount of moisturizer everywhere.456

Which Olay Regenerist is best?

For a first retinol, Starter is the clearest choice because Olay designed it for new users. For a daytime moisturizer, decide whether you want SPF30, a matte finish or a fragrance free formula. The matte finish is a useful reason to pick Whip; collecting every jar with the same surname is not.13

The exact retinol and retinyl propionate percentages in the current Retinol24 products are undisclosed. Do not treat Starter as equivalent to a serum with a stated percentage, or use ingredient order to calculate strength. Retinoids, the vitamin A family that includes retinol, can improve the appearance of fine wrinkles over time. They do not lift substantial sagging or replace lost facial volume.23

How should I use Retinol24?

1. 1Cleanse gently at night and let your face dry.
2. 2Apply one facial retinoid following its current directions. Start two or three nights per week and increase only while your skin remains comfortable.
3. 3Add a plain moisturizer without retinol if you need more hydration. Do not combine a Retinol24 serum, retinol cream and targeted retinoid treatment on the same area.
4. 4The next morning, protect exposed skin with broad spectrum SPF30 or higher.

Before using a new ordinary moisturizer widely, test the normal amount on a small area of your arm or elbow twice daily for seven to 10 days. If redness, itching or swelling develops, wash it off and stop using it. For Retinol24, follow the gradual retinoid schedule rather than applying it twice daily.36

Retinoids can cause dryness and irritation. Stop and seek medical advice for persistent burning, marked redness, swelling, blistering or worsening irritation. Discuss retinoid use with a dermatologist first if you have substantial dryness, allergies, inflammation or rosacea.23
