ComfiSkin vs MDacne

MDacne sells personalised acne-product kits by subscription, starting with a “free” first kit. It has retired its mobile app and moved to the web. ComfiSkin is a free app that sells nothing and helps you understand any product you use.

The short answer

MDacne’s first kit is free apart from shipping, but its terms say your plan is then “automatically renewed one (1) month after your initial sign up, without further authorization”. Some customers call that a trap. It has also retired its mobile app, so anyone who relied on it now has to use the website.

What that means: a “free” kit can become a monthly bill you didn’t mean to start. If your acne needs treatment, see a dermatologist. For understanding the products you use, ComfiSkin is free, with nothing to renew.

A free kit that turns into a subscription

MDacne’s first kit costs nothing but shipping, starting at $9.2 Its terms, updated on 30 September 2026, then say your plan is “automatically renewed one (1) month after your initial sign up, without further authorization”.1 On Trustpilot, where it scores well overall, one one-star review from September 2026 is titled “Free trial is a trap”.5

A free first box that quietly becomes a monthly charge is one of the oldest tricks in subscription retail, and it works because people forget. ComfiSkin has no trial, no box and no renewal date.

What that means for you: sign up for a free kit and, a month later, you’re paying unless you remembered to stop it.

The app is gone

On 1 October 2026, MDacne wrote: “We retired the mobile app and moved everything to mdacne.com.” It added: “We did not shut down.”3 The App Store listing now returns “not found”. For people who tracked their skin in the app, that means a different way of working, on a website, overnight.

ComfiSkin is an app, and it keeps your routine, check-ins and photos on your phone, with a password-protected backup you control. Your history doesn’t depend on a company’s product decisions.

What that means for you: the app you used can disappear when a company changes direction. Keep your history somewhere you control.

What to do

  1. If you took a free kit, check whether you’re now subscribed, and when the next charge is due.
  2. For persistent or painful acne, see a dermatologist. Prescription treatment is a doctor’s call.
  3. Use ComfiSkin to understand and track your products, free, with your history kept on your phone.
