Do I need to use it twice a day?
No. Once daily is a reasonable starting point after testing the product, and you can keep that frequency if it fits your routine. General toner guidance allows once or twice daily use, with frequency chosen around skin tolerance and the other products you use. Twice daily is allowed, not required. The toner is an optional step, not a compulsory attendance register for your face.23
How to apply it
- 1Cleanse gently, then pat your face dry without rubbing.
- 2Apply the toner with your fingertips and gently pat it over your face. Anua also allows a cotton pad, but clean palms are the better choice when skin is actively stinging because they avoid pad friction.
- 3Leave the toner on. You do not need to rinse it off.
- 4Follow with moisturizer. If you already use a hydrating serum or ampoule, apply the thinner layer before the thicker moisturizer.
- 5Finish your morning routine with sunscreen. Sunscreen comes after moisturizer, not before the toner.
Is it an exfoliating toner?
The Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner is a lightweight soothing and hydrating product. The US formula contains 77% heartleaf, glycerin, betaine, panthenol and several forms of hyaluronic acid, and Anua labels it fragrance free. The Heartleaf 77 Clear Pads are a different product: they use gluconolactone, a polyhydroxy acid, plus pad texture to help remove dead skin cells. Heartleaf branding covers more than one kind of product, so the shared name is not a shared instruction manual.56
What should I expect from daily use?
The main reasons to use this toner are lightweight hydration and help with the look of redness and discomfort. Anua reports increased hydration and a cooling effect after one application, while its redness care description calls for consistent use. Look for whether your skin feels more comfortable after washing rather than treating every application as a test of visible transformation. The toner fits routines for sensitive feeling skin, including oily skin that also feels reactive.145
Test it before making it a daily habit
A formula designed for sensitive skin can still cause irritation. Use this general home testing method before applying the toner across your face:7
- 1Choose a spot about the size of a quarter on the underside of your arm or the bend of your elbow.
- 2Apply your normal amount twice daily for seven to 10 days, somewhere the product will not be rubbed or washed away.
- 3Leave the toner on as you would during normal use.
- 4If there is no redness, itching or swelling after the testing period, begin using it on your face.
What if I use acids or prescription skincare?
Introduce the toner without adding several other new products at the same time. If exfoliating acids or prescription actives have already left your skin sensitized, keep the toner step simple. During active stinging, reduce heat and rubbing, pause strong exfoliating products, and stick with products your skin already tolerates. Adding a soothing toner is not a reason to continue an irritating routine.46
When should I stop?
If the toner causes a skin reaction, gently wash it off and stop using it. Watch for redness, itching or swelling rather than pushing through discomfort to maintain daily use. A cool compress or petroleum jelly can help relieve a reaction. See a dermatologist if the reaction is severe, does not settle with those measures, or you cannot identify which product or ingredient is causing it.7
