Does oily skin still need moisturiser?

Oily skin still needs hydration and barrier support, so shine is not a permission slip to skip moisturiser. Oiliness comes from excess sebum, the skin's natural oil. Drying your skin out too aggressively can leave it uncomfortable and might prompt more oil production. Choose a gentle cleanser rather than trying to wash your face into a different skin type.3

Should you choose the cream or something lighter?

If your main concern is shine across your face, look for a lightweight, oil free moisturiser labelled non comedogenic, meaning formulated not to clog pores. If dryness is the problem in particular areas, a richer cream makes more sense there. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream contains three essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid. These support the skin barrier and hydration; those benefits are useful beyond dry skin, but texture still matters.134

How do you use it on your face?

  1. 1Wash with a gentle cleanser suited to oily skin, then pat dry without scrubbing.
  2. 2Apply any serum first, then gently massage in moisturiser. CeraVe's general facial guidance suggests a pea sized amount for the face and neck.
  3. 3Moisturise morning and evening, choosing the texture that suits the area you are covering.
  4. 4In the morning, follow with broad spectrum, water resistant SPF 30 or higher sunscreen before makeup. Apply sunscreen 15 minutes before going outdoors.
  5. 5Allow moisturiser to absorb before applying makeup; CeraVe suggests a few minutes.

What should you expect?

The useful goal is hydrated, comfortable skin, not treating excess oil with a richer texture. CeraVe's UK Oil Control moisturiser is specifically designed to absorb excess oil while hydrating. General skincare guidance recommends keeping a tolerated routine consistent for at least 30 days before judging whether it works. Stop sooner if a product irritates your skin rather than waiting out that period.15

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream for dry acne prone skin

Dryness makes the cream a more relevant option, including when the skin barrier is compromised. Keep hydration and acne treatment as separate jobs: acne treatments such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid target breakouts. If a retinoid is making your skin dry, general dermatology guidance allows a moisturiser formulated not to clog pores immediately after washing, followed by the retinoid 20 to 30 minutes later. Follow your prescribed routine rather than automatically changing its order.356

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream for combination skin

Combination skin is oily in some areas and dry in others, often with drier cheeks. A lightweight lotion can suit everyday use, with the cream reserved for drier patches or winter. Different areas can use different moisturisers, because one pot need not have jurisdiction over the whole face.123

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream for dry skin around the nose

For a dry patch around the nose, gently applying a cream when the area feels dry fits general dry skin care. An oily nose does not rule out nearby dryness. If you have very reactive skin, test a small area first. Stop using the product if it causes irritation. A persistent rash or a skin problem affecting your quality of life deserves a dermatologist's assessment rather than simply more moisturiser.157
