The product directions below apply to Aqua Fresh on Beauty of Joseon's Canadian and Malaysian storefronts; the original Relief Sun is a different formula, so check its own label before taking it swimming. The word Aqua is part of the name, not a swimming qualification.123
What should I use for swimming or exercise?
Choose broad spectrum protection, which covers both UVA and UVB rays, plus an explicit water resistance claim. SPF 30 or higher is the general minimum; for a beach day, outdoor sports or other extended outdoor activity, choose SPF 50 or higher. Water resistance matters for sweaty exercise as well as swimming, so a high SPF alone is not enough for those plans.45
On US sunscreen labels, water resistance is tested for either 40 or 80 minutes of swimming or sweating. Look for that duration alongside the claim and read the reapplication instructions. Neither duration means waterproof: all sunscreens eventually wash off. SPF describes protection against sunburn, not water resistance or how many hours you can stay outside.6
Can I still use Aqua Fresh every day?
Aqua Fresh is positioned as a daily broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF50+ PA++++. Beauty of Joseon positions Aqua Fresh as a lighter alternative to the richer original Relief Sun, so the family name does not mean identical twins. The brand describes Aqua Fresh as a lightweight fluid, particularly suited to oily and combination skin, and intended for all skin types.12
For a day spent mostly indoors with short periods outside, broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher fits general daily protection guidance. For swimming, heavy sweating or a long day outdoors, select a water resistant formula suited to the activity rather than choosing by texture alone. These are general sunscreen selection principles, not a water resistance rating for Aqua Fresh.5
How should I apply and reapply it?
- 1Apply Aqua Fresh as the last step of your morning skincare routine. Beauty of Joseon directs generous, even coverage over areas exposed to the sun.
- 2Apply to dry skin before heading outdoors. General sunscreen guidance calls for application 15 minutes before sun exposure; follow any specific timing on your own label.
- 3Cover exposed areas thoroughly, including your ears, neck, hairline and hands. For an entire body application, an average adult needs about one ounce; that is a body amount, not a face amount.
- 4Reapply at least every two hours. Use Beauty of Joseon's two hour application direction rather than stretching the interval to the three hours mentioned in its FAQ.
- 5For swimming or sweaty activity, use your chosen water resistant sunscreen and follow its label. Reapply immediately after swimming or heavy sweating, and after towel drying removes sunscreen.
What if I already swam wearing Relief Sun?
Do not wait for the usual two hour interval. Reapply sunscreen after swimming, and choose a labeled water resistant product before returning to the water. Water, sweat and towel drying can remove sunscreen, even when the original application was generous.17
At the beach or pool, use shade, covering clothing, a hat and sunglasses alongside sunscreen. Water and sand reflect UV rays, increasing exposure, and no sunscreen completely blocks UV radiation. If you take medication, ask your clinician about sun precautions because some medicines increase sun sensitivity.345
