Which Mighty Patch do you mean?
Mighty Patch Original uses hydrocolloid, a gel that absorbs fluid, to absorb pimple contents and shrink the appearance of whiteheads in about six hours. Hero describes its hydrocolloid patches as suitable for sensitive skin, but that is not a reason to use a pimple patch as an eye treatment. Mighty Patch Original is a pimple patch, so the name gives it more ambition than its actual job description.1
Mighty Patch for Dark Spots targets marks left by blemishes. Its dissolving Micropoints contain niacinamide and vitamin C, with fading intended to happen over multiple uses. Dark circles under the eyes are not the post blemish spots this product targets. Hero's directions are to apply it to a clean, dry blemish area, press lightly for 20 seconds, wear it for six to eight hours, and repeat in two to three days if needed. Those are blemish area directions, not an under eye routine.2
What should you do for puffy, tired looking eyes?
- 1Soak a washcloth in cold water.
- 2Lie down and place the washcloth across your closed eyes for a few minutes.
- 3If you use an ice pack instead, wrap it in a towel to protect your skin.
Cold helps narrow blood vessels and reduce swelling. A cold compress can reduce puffiness, which is a fairly modest job for something that already lives in the bathroom. The relief is temporary: genetically determined bags related to fat pads, bone structure or loose skin can be harder to correct.3
Do not put bare ice directly on your skin or leave it resting in one place. Direct or prolonged contact can cause irritation, redness and frostbite. Avoid facial icing if you have thin or sensitive skin, visible broken capillaries, or are recovering from a cosmetic procedure unless your doctor recommends it. If you choose facial icing, limit it to once a day and moisturize afterwards.5
What if the puffiness keeps coming back?
Aim for seven to nine hours of sleep and try an extra pillow to slightly raise your head overnight. Limiting salty foods can help reduce water retention. If swelling started with an eye cream or makeup product, stop using the suspected product for at least a couple of weeks. Remove contact lenses if your eyes or eyelids swell.3
For swelling caused by allergies, cool compresses and antihistamines can help. Antihistamine eye drops are useful only when allergies are the cause. Do not use steroid eye drops unless prescribed. Eye creams containing caffeine or retinol can sometimes improve the appearance of bags, but avoid hemorrhoid cream around the eyes.34
When is it more than tired looking eyes?
Have eye swelling checked if it lasts longer than 24 to 48 hours. Itchy, sticky or swollen eyelids can have causes such as allergy or infection; ask a pharmacist, doctor or optician rather than diagnosing them yourself. Get urgent care for a red, hot, painful or blistered eyelid, sudden drooping, or an inability to open your eye.36
Seek emergency medical care for a painful red eye, a change in vision, or headache or nausea with eye pain. Contact a healthcare professional if swelling prevents you from closing your eye completely, or comes with difficulty breathing or fainting.47
