Which PURITO sunscreen do you have?
Check the full product name, SPF rating and active ingredients on your tube before buying another one or comparing ingredient lists. Sunscreens sold outside the US can differ from US products. Daily Go To's exact ingredients, protection testing and finish remain unconfirmed here. The US product is called Sun Day Adventure, which is a lot of itinerary for a tube of sunscreen.12
What is in the US Sun Day Adventure formula?
Sun Day Adventure contains avobenzone 3%, homosalate 9%, octisalate 4.5% and octocrylene 5% as its active sunscreen ingredients. These make it a chemical sunscreen, rather than a mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Its inactive ingredients include panthenol and Oenanthe javanica extract, also called water parsley. The active ingredients provide the UV protection; the botanical ingredient is not a replacement for them.1234
PURITO describes Sun Day Adventure as lightweight with a soft touch finish, because even sun protection now has a texture brief. The brand also describes a hydrating, non greasy formula with a radiant finish and no white cast, and lists no synthetic fragrance. Its listed price is $21.50 for 50 mL. Those details belong to Sun Day Adventure, not automatically to Daily Go To.2
What protection should you look for?
Choose broad spectrum protection, SPF 30 or higher and water resistance. Broad spectrum means protection against UVA and UVB, the two types of ultraviolet radiation. SPF mainly measures protection against sunburn from UVB; it is not a count of how many hours you can stay outside. Sun Day Adventure is labelled broad spectrum SPF 50 and helps prevent sunburn. Used as directed with other sun protection measures, it also helps reduce the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun.1234
How to apply and reapply sunscreen
- 1Apply sunscreen every day you will be outside, including cloudy days. Cover skin that clothing leaves exposed.
- 2Apply to dry skin 15 minutes before going outdoors. For Sun Day Adventure, PURITO directs you to use it as the final step in your skincare routine.
- 3Use a generous, even layer. General face application guidance is at least 1 teaspoon, approximately enough to cover the length of your index and middle fingers.
- 4Cover your neck, ears, hairline and hands as well as your face. For wider body coverage, most adults need about 1 ounce, with the amount depending on the exposed area and body size.
- 5Reapply at least every two hours. For swimming or sweating, choose a water resistant sunscreen and follow its reapplication instructions.
Can you use it for swimming or exercise?
Sun Day Adventure's directions tell you to use a water resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating. For Daily Go To, check your own tube for a water resistance claim before choosing it for either activity. A water resistant sunscreen must state whether its protection lasts for 40 or 80 minutes in water or while sweating. No sunscreen is waterproof, and all eventually wash off. A higher SPF does not extend the time between applications.134
What if you have sensitive skin?
Mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are recommended for sensitive skin. Sun Day Adventure uses different active ingredients. PURITO reports three types of adult skin irritation testing for Sun Day Adventure, but your choice still needs to account for any ingredients you already know you react to. Do not apply Sun Day Adventure to damaged or broken skin. Keep it out of your eyes and rinse with water if contact occurs. Stop using it and ask a doctor if a rash develops.234
Can children use it?
For children older than six months, use sunscreen according to its Drug Facts directions. PURITO advises a patch test and healthcare advice before using Sun Day Adventure on children because its irritation tests were conducted on adults. For babies younger than six months, keep them out of direct sun and ask a doctor before applying sunscreen. Shade and protective clothing are their main protection.124
How to store it and check expiry
Keep sunscreen away from excessive heat and direct sun, including while outdoors. Keep the container shaded or wrap it in a towel. Use the marked expiry date and discard expired sunscreen. If there is no expiry date, discard it three years after purchase; if you do not know its age, replace it. Alongside sunscreen, seek shade and wear covering clothing, a hat and sunglasses, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.134
