Start with Daily Soft Touch if outdoor use is your priority, Sun Day Adventure if you want an oil free cream, or Wonder Releaf if you prefer a dewy lotion. The stick is the portable option. PURITO sells both a Daily Soft Touch cream and a Daily Soft Touch stick, because apparently the name needed a second job.1

PURITO lists Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ at $21.50. Compare the price and pack size of the exact products at your retailer before deciding which offers better value.2

Wonder Releaf has a custard like texture, which is a surprisingly specific assignment for a sunscreen.1

What protection should you look for?

Choose SPF 30 or higher, broad spectrum protection and water resistance. SPF describes protection against sunburn, primarily from UVB rays. Broad spectrum means protection against both UVA and UVB rays. UVA contributes to skin aging, while UVB is the main cause of sunburn; both contribute to skin cancer. A high SPF number does not replace checking for UVA protection.34

SPF 50+ offers about 98% protection against UVB under test conditions, but applying too little reduces the protection you receive. Sunscreen is preventive protection, not a treatment you wait several weeks to see working. Its protective filters absorb ultraviolet radiation before it damages skin. Mineral filters also absorb UV radiation, rather than working only as tiny mirrors.5

How do you apply PURITO sunscreen?

Follow the directions on your exact PURITO pack, especially for the stick: sunscreen directions can differ by format. For a cream or lotion, these general application steps help you get the intended protection.6

  1. 1Apply sunscreen about 15 minutes before going outdoors, rather than waiting until you are already in the sun.
  2. 2Use enough. For your face, use at least 1 teaspoon, approximately the amount covering the length of your index and middle fingers. Most adults need at least 1 ounce to cover exposed skin across the body, with more needed for a larger body.
  3. 3Rub the cream or lotion thoroughly into your skin. Cover every exposed area, including your ears, neck, hands, legs and the tops of your feet.
  4. 4Protect an exposed scalp with sunscreen or a wide brimmed hat. Use an SPF 30 or higher lip balm on your lips.
  5. 5Reapply every two hours outdoors, and immediately after swimming or sweating. Reapply after toweling off, too.
37

Do you need it every day?

Use sunscreen before outdoor exposure, including on cloudy days and in winter. Daily application is particularly relevant when the UV index is forecast to reach 3 or higher. UVA can pass through clouds and window glass, so being behind a window does not remove all UV exposure. Sunscreen is for daylight protection; the practical timing is before exposure, not a bedtime application.57

Is Daily Soft Touch waterproof?

No sunscreen is waterproof. Daily Soft Touch is described as water resistant, but check your pack for its specific reapplication directions before swimming or exercising. On a US sunscreen label, water resistance means tested protection for either 40 or 80 minutes while swimming or sweating. Even a water resistant sunscreen needs reapplication every two hours when skin stays dry. SPF 50 is not permission to stay outside 50 times longer.36

What if you have sensitive or acne prone skin?

PURITO describes Sun Day Adventure as noncomedogenic, meaning formulated not to clog pores, and suitable for sensitive skin. If sensitivity is your main concern, dermatologists generally recommend mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide, titanium dioxide or both. Identify those filters from the active ingredient list on the container rather than from a soft sounding product name. Chemical, mineral and hybrid sunscreens can all provide effective protection when they meet the SPF, broad spectrum and water resistance criteria.13

What should you use alongside sunscreen?

Add shade, clothing that covers exposed skin, a hat that shades your face and neck, and sunglasses with UV protection. Sunscreen and protective clothing do not block all UV radiation. Take extra care at high altitude and around snow, which reflects additional UV radiation. After swimming, change into dry clothes because wet fabric is often less protective. If you think you have sun damaged skin, a dermatologist can examine it and advise you.47

How should you store it, and when should you replace it?

Keep sunscreen away from excessive heat and direct sunlight. Outdoors, keep the container in shade or wrap it in a towel. Discard sunscreen past its expiration date. For a US sunscreen without an expiration date, replace it three years after purchase; discard it if you do not know its age. When buying sunscreen from another country, read that product's label because sunscreen regulation and directions can differ between markets.6
