Which Purito sunscreen are you buying?
Check the product name on your tube before choosing directions, because "Purito sunscreen" is not quite a full address. Products bought outside the US can have different labels and regulatory requirements. Match any ingredient list or application instructions to the product in your hand, not merely to the brand.1
If you meant Purito Sun Day Adventure SPF 50
Purito Sun Day Adventure SPF 50 is a broad spectrum sunscreen sold in a 50 mL tube, listed at $21.50 on Purito's US product page. Purito describes Sun Day Adventure as lightweight with a soft touch finish and no white cast, so the name is doing a little of the texture department's work. The brand also describes a hydrating, nongreasy finish with a natural glow. Choose it for ordinary daily wear rather than swimming or sweaty exercise: its directions tell you to use a water resistant sunscreen for those activities.2
What ingredients are in Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen?
Use Daily Soft Touch's own ingredient list to identify its formula. For the separately named Sun Day Adventure SPF 50, Purito lists avobenzone 3%, homosalate 9%, octisalate 4.5% and octocrylene 5% as the active UV filters. Its inactive ingredients include panthenol and Oenanthe javanica extract, also called water parsley. Purito labels that product "No Synthetic Fragrance". These are Sun Day Adventure details, not a substitute ingredient list for Daily Soft Touch.2
What does SPF 50 mean?
SPF means sun protection factor and measures protection against sunburn, primarily from UVB rays. Broad spectrum means protection against both UVA and UVB rays. SPF 50 is not permission to stay outside 50 times longer: sun intensity, the amount applied and reapplication all affect protection. Dermatologists recommend broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher, alongside shade and protective clothing. No sunscreen filters out every UV ray.1345
How should you apply it?
These are general sunscreen steps. Follow your exact tube if its directions differ.
- 1Apply generously to exposed skin 15 minutes before sun exposure. Cover your face and body rather than using a thin layer only where you tend to burn.
- 2Include commonly missed areas such as your ears, hairline, back of the neck, hands and tops of the feet. Keep sunscreen away from your eyes and mouth, and use an SPF lip balm for your lips.
- 3Reapply at least every two hours while outdoors. Reapply after toweling off and more often when swimming or sweating.
- 4For swimming or sweating, choose a sunscreen with a water resistance rating and follow its stated reapplication interval.
An average sized adult or child needs at least one ounce to cover the body from head to toe. That is a whole body amount, not a face only dose. For Sun Day Adventure, Purito specifically tells you to apply sunscreen as the final skincare step and cover the face, neck and backs of the hands.12
When do you need it, and what should you expect?
General guidance is to apply sunscreen daily when the forecast UV index reaches 3 or higher. UVA can pass through clouds and window glass, so visible sunshine is not the only sign of exposure. Sunscreen protects against UV damage during use; it is not a treatment that needs weeks to build up. Chemical sunscreens absorb UV radiation, and mineral sunscreens also protect mainly by absorbing it. Adequate coverage and regular reapplication matter whichever type you choose.15
What if your skin is sensitive?
For sensitive skin, dermatologists recommend mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide, titanium dioxide or both. Sun Day Adventure's listed active filters make it a chemical sunscreen. For babies younger than six months, prioritize shade and protective clothing and ask a doctor before using sunscreen. For infants and toddlers aged six months or older, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends zinc oxide or titanium dioxide because these filters are less likely to irritate their sensitive skin.13
Sun Day Adventure's label says not to apply it to damaged or broken skin. Keep it out of the eyes and rinse with water if contact occurs. Stop using it and ask a doctor if a rash develops.2
How should you store the tube?
Keep sunscreen out of direct sunlight and excessive heat. Outside, leave the container in the shade or wrap it in a towel. Replace sunscreen after its printed expiry date. If there is no expiry date, discard it three years after purchase; discard it sooner if you cannot tell how old it is.1
