Can men use Olay Regenerist?

Which Regenerist should you choose?

• For oily skin, Olay positions Regenerist Whip as a lightweight option with a matte finish.
• For normal skin, Olay positions Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream as a middleweight moisturizer.
• For dry skin, Olay positions Regenerist Ultra Rich Moisturizer as a richer option for lasting moisture.
• For sensitive skin, look for mild, fragrance free products. Olay lists fragrance free versions of Micro Sculpting Cream and Ultra Rich.
• For skin prone to acne, look for an oil free or noncomedogenic label, meaning the product is formulated not to clog pores. Do not assume every Regenerist formula has those labels.

Combination skin can be oily through the centre of the face and dry on the cheeks. Use that pattern to guide your choice rather than assuming all men's skin needs the lightest cream. For sensitive skin, "unscented" is not the same as fragrance free: an unscented product can contain masking fragrance.13

How do you fit it into your routine?

For an ordinary moisturizer rather than a retinol night product, use this general routine:

1. 1Cleanse in the morning and before bed with a mild facial cleanser and lukewarm water. Wash after exercise, too.
2. 2Pat your face dry, leaving it slightly damp, then apply moisturizer. Moisturizing morning and evening helps keep water in the skin.
3. 3Finish your morning routine with sunscreen. Before going outdoors, use broad spectrum, water resistant SPF 30 or higher on exposed skin, including your ears, neck and scalp. Reapply every two hours outdoors and immediately after swimming or sweating.

The Regenerist name alone does not tell you the sun protection: the range includes Whip SPF 25 and Micro Sculpting Cream SPF 30. SPF 25 falls below the SPF 30 minimum above. For a combined moisturizer and sunscreen, also check for broad spectrum protection and, for outdoor use, water resistance.25

Can you use it after shaving?

A gentle moisturizer belongs after shaving, while skin is still damp. If choosing Regenerist for that step, favour a mild formula suited to your skin. Wet your skin and hair first, use moisturizing shaving cream and shave with the direction of hair growth. Avoid alcohol based aftershaves, which can dry and irritate skin.13

What if you mean Regenerist Retinol 24?

Retinol 24 is a night product, not interchangeable with an ordinary daytime moisturizer. Retinol helps with fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage and uneven pigmentation. Use retinol at night because it increases sun sensitivity, and keep sunscreen in your daytime routine. Introduce one new anti aging product at a time; adding several within days or weeks can irritate skin.125

What results should you expect?

Moisturizer traps water in the skin, helping soften the appearance of fine lines. Give moisturizer and sunscreen a few weeks before deciding whether another product is needed. Anti aging creams deliver modest results, even when the product name sounds like a renovation contract.35

Stop using a new product if it causes burning, itching, redness or a rash. If acne, rosacea or eczema is not improving with your routine, see a dermatologist rather than adding more anti aging products.1
