Which should you choose for your skin?
CeraVe PM is marketed for all skin types, including oily skin, and is labeled oil free and noncomedogenic, meaning formulated not to block pores. Its ceramides help support the skin barrier, which keeps moisture in, while hyaluronic acid helps maintain moisture. Niacinamide may help calm skin and reduce water loss.1
As general skincare guidance, gels usually feel lighter than lotions and are an option for oily skin. The word moisturizer covers gels, lotions, creams and ointments, which is a generous workload for one shelf label. For persistent dryness, a thicker cream or ointment is usually a better starting point than a lotion. If your face has both dry and oily areas, concentrate moisturizer on the dry areas rather than automatically applying the same amount everywhere.2
How do you use them?

If dryness keeps returning, a cream or ointment can provide more moisture than a lotion; switching texture can be more useful than repeatedly adding another layer.123

Tell a dermatologist if moisturizer causes burning, stinging or irritation. Make an appointment if dryness persists despite moisturizing, or becomes painful, cracked, bleeding or very irritating.
