Which COSRX snail product are you using?

COSRX sells snail mucin as an essence, cleanser, cream and mask, so 'snail mucin' names a collection rather than one bottle with an unusually ambitious job description. The Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence and Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream are separate products. Hyaluronic acid also comes in different formats: COSRX sells The Hyaluronic Acid 3 Serum and Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream.23

Use the general rule of thinnest to thickest for your two products. Texture decides the order, because the names on the bottles are not a seating plan. A liquid serum comes before a thicker gel, lotion or cream.1

How to layer them

  1. 1Cleanse your face gently. Apply hyaluronic acid serum while your skin is still damp.
  2. 2Layer the thinner product before the thicker one. Follow each product's directions for the amount to use.
  3. 3Follow the hydrating layers promptly with moisturizer containing an ingredient that helps keep water from evaporating.
  4. 4Use broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every morning. Apply makeup afterwards, if you wear it.

Why damp skin and moisturizer matter

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, meaning it attracts and holds water. Damp skin supplies water for that job. An occlusive ingredient in moisturizer helps keep that water from evaporating; examples include petrolatum, mineral oil and shea butter.1

Can you use hyaluronic acid morning and night?

Hyaluronic acid serum can be used morning and evening after cleansing. Follow the directions on your particular COSRX snail product for its frequency.1

What should you expect?

Hyaluronic acid helps hydrate skin and soften the appearance of fine lines. Some formulas combining different molecule sizes improve dryness and roughness within one to two weeks. That timing concerns hyaluronic acid formulas, not a specific result from the snail and serum combination.1

What if your skin is sensitive or you use medication?

Hyaluronic acid is not an exfoliating alpha or beta hydroxy acid. It is generally not irritating and is particularly useful for dry or aging skin. Adding more products can still irritate skin, especially when several are aging treatments. For topical medication, the usual sequence is cleansing, medication, then moisturizer or sunscreen. Keep medication instructions ahead of the texture rule, and ask a dermatologist if you have concerns about your routine.46
