How much sunscreen do you need?

For general sun protection, choose a water resistant sunscreen with broad spectrum coverage and SPF 30 or higher. Apply it about 15 minutes before going outside. Use at least 1 teaspoon for your face, and protect other exposed areas, including your ears and neck. Reapply every two hours outdoors and immediately after swimming or sweating. Follow your sunscreen's package directions as well.2

A tinted sunscreen containing iron oxide provides additional protection against visible light, which matters when trying to prevent dark spots. Cloudy weather and winter do not remove the need for sun protection, so the forecast does not get a vote in the routine.2

How long does Radiant Tone take to work?

The US Daily Lotion can improve radiance in as little as two weeks; reducing persistent dark spots calls for regular use. In the UK, the related Anti Pigment Dual Serum lists Thiamidol, hyaluronic acid and Licochalcone A, with visible results in two weeks. Keep that timing attached to the UK serum rather than treating it as a deadline for the US Dual Serum.13

Can you use Eucerin on your face?

Yes. Radiant Tone is intended for facial dark spot care, and the Dual Serum is suitable for all skin types. Do not apply Radiant Tone Thiamidol products to irritated skin or active acne breakouts.1

What does Eucerin do?

The answer depends on the product: moisturizing and pigment care are different jobs. Emollients are moisturizing treatments that soften and hydrate skin by forming a protective film that traps moisture. For an emollient moisturizer, smooth it gently onto skin rather than rubbing vigorously, ideally after washing and patting dry. These are general moisturizer directions, not a reason to exceed Radiant Tone's application limit.4

Is Eucerin good for the face?

A moisturizer should also be comfortable to use. Emollients can cause persistent burning or stinging, inflamed hair follicles or facial rashes that aggravate acne. If these occur, speak to a pharmacist, nurse or doctor. If you use a prescribed skin treatment alongside an emollient, leave 20 to 30 minutes between them and ask your doctor which to apply first.4

What if the patches are melasma?

Melasma is a condition that causes uneven facial pigmentation, and a dermatologist can distinguish it from other causes of darker patches. Treatment often combines sun protection with prescription medicines, sometimes with a procedure. A dermatologist's melasma treatment plan usually takes 3 to 12 months to show results, rather than the two week radiance timeline attached to a cosmetic product. For melasma, dermatologists often recommend sunscreen containing zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and iron oxide, alongside shade and a wide brimmed hat.5

Have new marks, spots with uneven colors, or spots changing shape or size assessed by a dermatologist rather than treating them as ordinary dark spots.1
