Should you use PanOxyl every day?
Daily use is the starting point for both washes. Increase gradually only if you need more treatment and your skin tolerates the current frequency. If once daily causes dryness or peeling, use it every other day instead. There is no set number of days you must wait before increasing: the directions base the change on need and dryness, not a calendar deadline.12
For benzoyl peroxide generally, start with the lowest strength to check tolerance. Do not automatically choose 10% because it sounds more decisive. PanOxyl is a rinse off acne treatment, not a face mask with ambitious branding.23
How to use PanOxyl
- 1Wash your hands, then wet the affected area.
- 2Apply the wash gently. For the Canadian 4% Acne Wash, cover the entire affected area with a thin layer.
- 3Gently massage for one to two minutes with the US 10% Acne Foaming Wash, or two minutes with the Canadian 4% Acne Wash. Do not scrub.
- 4Rinse thoroughly and pat dry, then wash your hands.
- 5If going outside, apply sunscreen after using PanOxyl.
Neither wash requires morning rather than evening use. Choose one daily wash to start, and follow the directions on your own package. Avoid unnecessary sun exposure while using benzoyl peroxide.23
How often should you use it on your chest or back?
PanOxyl recommends using its US 10% Acne Foaming Wash daily in the shower for chest acne. The same wash can treat the face, chest and back, so the bathroom does not need three departments. Start once daily on these areas too, and reduce frequency if dryness or peeling develops. After showering, use a gentle body moisturizer that does not clog pores.5
Does every wash need to be PanOxyl?
General acne care includes gentle cleansing twice daily, but that does not mean using a medicated wash twice daily from the start. Use a gentle cleanser for the other wash while starting PanOxyl once daily. Choose moisturizers and sunscreens that do not clog pores. Acne is not a hygiene problem, despite the enduring popularity of blaming the soap.456
How long before you see a difference?
Benzoyl peroxide usually starts working within four weeks. Using more than directed will not make it work faster and increases the risk of side effects. Speak to a pharmacist or doctor if acne worsens or has not improved after 12 weeks. These are general benzoyl peroxide timelines, not a separate deadline for each PanOxyl strength.3
When should you cut back or stop?
Reduce frequency for bothersome dryness or peeling. Stop and ask a doctor if irritation becomes severe. The US 10% label says not to use it on very sensitive skin or if you are sensitive to benzoyl peroxide. Keep the wash away from eyes, lips and mouth, and avoid hair and dyed fabrics because it can bleach them. Do not apply benzoyl peroxide to cuts, grazes or infected skin.23
Other acne medicines used on the skin can increase dryness and irritation. If you already use an acne treatment, including a prescription, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding PanOxyl. Ask a health professional before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding; if approved while breastfeeding, avoid applying benzoyl peroxide to the breasts.23
Get emergency help for difficulty breathing or swelling of the throat or tongue. Seek medical care for deep, painful acne lumps or acne causing scars rather than increasing washing frequency.34
