What changes should you look for?
Look for less noticeable pigmentation, smoother texture and softer fine wrinkles. Research on topical vitamin C found improvements in pigmentation and wrinkled skin, although noticeable changes can require longer use. These are general vitamin C expectations; for C E Ferulic, use them as goals rather than a guaranteed personal outcome. Anti aging skincare delivers modest changes, which gives the advertising department considerably less to work with.13
Do not judge the serum only by how hydrated your skin feels. In vitamin C trials, hydration improved equally on skin treated with vitamin C and skin treated with a placebo. Moisturizer can also make fine lines less noticeable, so that change alone is not a useful measure of the serum's contribution.13
How do you track your before and after?
- 1Take a starting photograph with no makeup or other products on your face.
- 2Photograph your face again once a month.
- 3Compare the photographs at about three months, looking at your main concern rather than expecting every sign of aging to change.
Use the same routine consistently unless a product irritates your skin. Frequently switching products can prevent you from seeing progress and leave skin irritated. Take comparison photos without makeup, because foundation does not need a supporting role in the serum's performance review.24
Where does vitamin C fit in your routine?
For a general morning vitamin C routine:
- 1Wash your face with a mild cleanser suited to your skin type.
- 2Apply vitamin C after cleansing, or after toner if you already use one.
- 3Apply sunscreen after your other skincare and before makeup. Choose broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher with water resistance.
Vitamin C can be used daily and works alongside sunscreen. Its antioxidant action helps protect against free radicals, unstable molecules that damage cells. That protective benefit is not something a before and after photograph can fully capture. Put sunscreen on 15 minutes before going outdoors and reapply every two hours while outside.234
When should you stop?
Vitamin C serum can cause dryness, itching or redness. Stop using a product that irritates your skin rather than continuing for the sake of an after photo. If you have sensitive skin, general vitamin C guidance favors starting with a low concentration of ascorbic acid, the active form of vitamin C. If eczema, rosacea or another skin condition affects your quality of life, see a dermatologist for a routine tailored to that condition.24
