Which BYOMA product has SPF?
Look for Ultralight Face Fluid SPF30 or Ultralight Face Fluid SPF50 rather than choosing by the word "moisturising" alone. The regular Moisturising Gel Cream and the SPF fluid are different products, even if the names look like they were filed by the same committee.23
| Product | SPF | UK listed price | US listed price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultralight Face Fluid SPF30 | 30 | £14.99 | $19.99 |
| Ultralight Face Fluid SPF50 | 50 | £14.99 | $18.99 |
Both UK fluids cost £14.99, so the SPF50 does not charge extra for having a bigger number on the bottle. The US listings have different prices, with SPF50 priced below SPF30.23
Should you choose SPF30 or SPF50?
Choose SPF50 if you want the higher level of sunburn protection. SPF30 meets the dermatology recommendation for an SPF of at least 30, but also look for broad spectrum coverage and water resistance. The UK SPF30 fluid offers broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays.145
SPF mainly describes protection against UVB, the ultraviolet radiation associated with sunburn. Broad spectrum means protection against both UVA and UVB. SPF is not a timer: SPF50 does not mean you can stay outside 50 times longer, and a higher number does not replace reapplication.4
What is in the UK SPF30 fluid?
The UK SPF30 ingredient list includes octocrylene, homosalate, ethylhexyl salicylate and butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane. Its skincare ingredients include glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, ceramide NP, cholesterol, bisabolol and astaxanthin. BYOMA describes the fluid as lightweight, hydrating, alcohol free and fragrance free, with a glowing finish.1
Expect hydration on application rather than a change that requires weeks of use. Texture is the main practical uncertainty: the SPF30 fluid can feel greasy, and irritation is possible despite its fragrance free formula. Do not choose it on the assumption that it cannot sting or cause breakouts.1
Do you need moisturizer underneath?
The SPF30 fluid already provides hydration, so try it without a separate moisturizer if that feels comfortable. If you need more moisture, put your moisturizer underneath and keep the SPF fluid last. This is a practical way to use its hydrating formula, not a requirement to buy another BYOMA product.1
For a separate moisturizer, BYOMA positions its regular Moisturising Gel Cream as a lightweight option for oily and blemish prone skin. Its Moisturising Rich Cream has a thicker texture intended for dry skin. Choose between those textures for moisture needs, not as a substitute for the SPF fluid.6
How do you apply BYOMA SPF?
- 1Finish your other skincare first. BYOMA directs you to use the UK SPF30 fluid as the final skincare step.
- 2Apply generously and evenly 15 minutes before sun exposure. General dermatology guidance recommends at least 1 teaspoon of sunscreen for the face; this is not a BYOMA specific measured dose.
- 3Rub the sunscreen thoroughly into your skin, avoiding your eyes and mouth. Protect exposed ears, neck and the hairline too.
- 4Reapply every two hours while outdoors. Reapply immediately after swimming or sweating, and after towelling.
Use sunscreen before going outside even on cloudy days and in winter. A morning application is not enough for a full day outdoors. Too little sunscreen, missed reapplication and expired sunscreen are common reasons people still get sunburned.5
Can you use it for swimming or exercise?
For swimming or sweaty exercise, choose a bottle explicitly labelled water resistant. Do not treat BYOMA's instruction to reapply after swimming as a water resistance rating. No sunscreen is waterproof. US water resistant labels specify either 40 or 80 minutes of protection during swimming or sweating; follow the timing on your own bottle.47
What else protects your skin?
Use sunscreen alongside shade and clothing rather than relying on a facial fluid alone. Seek shade especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest. A wide brimmed hat, sunglasses with UV protection and clothing covering exposed skin add protection. Clothing labelled with an ultraviolet protection factor, or UPF, offers a rated level of protection.7
How should you store the bottle?
Keep sunscreen away from excessive heat and direct sunlight, including while you are outside. Keep the bottle shaded or wrapped in a towel. For a US sunscreen, discard it after its expiry date; if there is no date, discard it three years after purchase. Replace sunscreen if you cannot tell how old it is.4
If you think you have sun damaged skin, a dermatologist can examine it and advise you on the next steps.5
